MHPS Opens "Steam Turbine Technical Training Center" At Yokohama Works (Honmoku Area) -- Targeting Mastery of Maintenance Technologies Using Actual Steam Turbine with Output of 250 Megawatts --

No.012

Yokohama, July 2, 2014 - Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) opened a new "Steam Turbine Technical Training Center" today on the premises of its Yokohama Works (Honmoku Area). The new facility is aimed at cultivating human resources capable of responding immediately to customer demands by mastering and enhancing power plant maintenance technologies through training on an actual steam turbine with an output of 250 megawatts (MW). The training center will also be utilized to pass on skills to young workers. To mark the facility's opening, a ceremony of completion was held along with a special prayer for its safe operation.

The new Steam Turbine Technical Training Center's most outstanding feature is its ability to provide trainees with mastery of related technologies using a real steam turbine, including actual operations involving the opening, assembly, etc. of the turbine and main valves. The Yokohama Works (Honmoku Area) where it is located is also home to the "Netmation Training Center," opened this spring, where an array of training courses are available for cultivating engineers and technicians skilled in the operation of "Netmation" control systems. Plans also call for training to be offered in response to user needs.

The Steam Turbine Technical Training Center will also serve as a training venue enabling mastery of all types of knowledge relating to steam turbines: for example, their structure and mechanisms, history, features of the newest models, etc. In this capacity the center will be used broadly to train company employees in a quest to foster workers equipped with multiple skills.

MHPS established a similar training center (MHPS-TC) in Houston, Texas, in January 2012 that until now has functioned as a technical training center for gas turbines. Now, a technical training program in steam turbines and generators has been added, using an actual steam turbine with an output of 26.9 MW. Going forward, the cross-functional roles of the company's two training bases - one in the U.S. and one in Japan - will be enhanced and maintenance technologies and skills will be standardized.

By making full use of the new technical training center in Yokohama, going forward MHPS looks to cultivate large numbers of highly skilled field service engineers. Through their contribution to the stable supply of electric power, the company aims to perform business activities ever more satisfying to its customers.
